William Steckert

Wiliam Steckert was born in 1855 in Germany, son of John Steckert.  He married Catherine Shellhouse.  She was born on May 18, 1867 in Grossalamorode, Germany.   At the age of 99, she was hospitalized for the first time in her life, with a broken hip as a result of a fall.  She died on June 2, 1967 at the age of 100. 

William was a brushmaker by trade.  He lived in West Hazleton.  He was also a part time law enforcement officer, probably a constable.  He died in June, 1922 in Hazleton, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.  He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, North Street, West Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

Martha Steckert, married to Raymond Metz.  He was born in 1887 and died in 1956.

William Steckert

Robert O. Steckert, born on November 24, 1893. Died on June 5, 1970 at Hazleton State General Hospital.  He married Stella I. Sands.  She was born in 1907 and died in 1976.  Robert was a member of the Drake-Wear Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hazleton.  He was also a member of the Hazleton Barracks 1621 of World War I Veterans.  Both Robert and Stella are buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, North Street, West Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

Oscar Eugene Steckert

George M. Steckert, born in 1901 and died in September, 1973.  He was married to Mary Cuozzo.  He was a member of the Irem Temple Shrine in Wilkes-Barre, the Hazleton Elks, the Caldwell Consistory of Bloomsburg, the IOOF, Azalea Lodge 687, F&AM, and Emmanuel's United Church of Christ in Hazleton.  He was the founder and owner of George M. Steckert Distributing Co.  Both George and Mary are buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, North Street, West Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

Edward Steckert, born in 1903 and died in 1979.  He married Florence Derby on October 23, 1935 at 557 N. Church Street, Hazleton.  Florence was born in 1911 and died in 1974.  Both are buried in Mountain View Cemetery, North Street, West Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

Oscar Eugene Steckert

Oscar E. Steckert was born October 1, 1896, son of William Steckert and Catherine Shellhouse.  It is likely that he was born in West Hazleton, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, as his parents maintained their residence at 112 E. Green Street, West Hazleton, according to the Hazleton and West Hazleton City Directories of 1904 through 1919.

He was a weaver at the Duplan Silk Mill on Diamond Avenue, between Wyoming Avenue and Cedar Street in Hazleton.  Later, he was Sales Manager at Steckert Bros. Pontiac, Broad and Ceder Streets, which was owned by two of his brothers, Edward and Frederick.

He married Elizabeth L. Wolfe, daughter of George Wolf and Elizabeth Gossman.  She was born December 12, 1898.  She died of a heart attack on October 3, 1947 after an afternoon drive in the car.

Oscar died on November 27, 1982 in Hazleton.  Oscar and Elizabeth are buried in Mountain View Cemetery, North Street, West Hazleton, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

Oscar and Elizabeth had three children, who are still living.
